IPX Hackathon 2025

Build the Future of Scan-to-BIM QAQC

1st Edition · Starts Friday, October 17 · 72 Hours · $3,500 in Prizes

Why This Hackathon Matters

The world is digitizing faster than ever. At Integrated Projects (IPX), we’re bringing 100s of buildings online every month—converting raw point clouds into standardized, LOD300 BIM models that power acquisition, renovation, and operations.

But here’s the challenge: QAQC is a bottleneck.

Today, errors like wall misalignments, level creation, or missing elements still require hours of manual review. That slows down delivery and holds back the industry.

We imagine a world where a smart QAQC engine autonomously detects, classifies, and resolves these issues in real time. A world where the AEC/O industry gets faster, more consistent, and more scalable BIM models.

This hackathon is your chance to join us on a mission to solve this at scale.

What to Build

Use IPX’s Sandbox Dataset (1 Million square feet, 100 IFC files, 200 floors) to create tools that push QAQC forward:

  • Automation → Scripts, rule engines, or design validation frameworks.

  • Spatial Intelligence → Insights, visualizations, or analytics from BIM data.

  • QAQC Engines → Automated detection and resolution of errors in BIM models.

Hackathon Format

  • Duration: 72 hours

  • When: October 17th, weekend sprint (Fri → Sun)

  • Where: Remote & async-friendly

  • Dataset: Revit (.rvt), IFC, Point Cloud (.rcs) hosted in GDrive/Airtable

What to Submit

  1. A short demo video (≤3 minutes).

  2. A public GitHub/code repo (open source license required).

  3. Documentation explaining the “why” and “how.”

  4. Links to relevant datasets, prototypes, or models.

Who Should Apply

This hackathon is for builders who want to push the boundaries of BIM automation. You should apply if you are:

  • A BIM Software Engineer who codes in Revit API, IFC, or Dynamo.

  • A QAQC Specialist eager to automate error detection in Revit models.

  • A Data/ML Engineer who wants to apply computer vision or data science to BIM datasets.

  • An AEC/O Professional (architect, engineer, contractor, operator) who knows the pain of manual QAQC and wants to help solve it.

  • A Full-stack or Automation Developer looking to test your skills on real-world building data.

What skills are needed to join?

Here’s the technical skill of what will give you an edge in the hackathon:

Hard Skills

  • Revit API, C#, Python, Dynamo

  • Familiarity with IFC schemas, point clouds, and BIM datasets

  • QA/validation frameworks, rule engines, or error-detection logic

  • Data visualization & reporting (web apps, dashboards, or scripts)

Mindset

  • System thinker who obsesses over model consistency

  • Knows when to trust the machine and when to double-check manually

  • Comfortable working with large, messy datasets

  • Driven to simplify complexity into usable outputs

Bonus Points

  • Experience with real-world Revit edge cases (mislabeled families, broken dimensions, enclosure errors, etc.)

  • Prior work with BIM + ML/AI pipelines

Why Join

This hackathon is more than a competition. It’s a chance to:

  • Tackle one of the most urgent challenges in building digitization.

  • Work with real datasets that power 5,000+ digitized buildings.

  • Join a global community of builders at the intersection of BIM, automation, and AI.

  • Get visibility with IPX and potential partners in the AEC/O industry.
