We Rebuilt IPX to Break the Most Annoying Bottlenecks in Scan-to-BIM

Every version of the IPX platform has taken one step closer to a standardized, transparent scan-to-BIM process. Every version has also put us deeper in tech debt. We were focusing on responding to customer needs in the moment rather than building for the long term, and it showed.

So we started over in December of 2025, rebuilding the platform from scratch and making deep updates to the AI engine that powers it. It’s going to help us maintain the fastest, most predictable experience we can offer in every version going forward.

Here’s what that means for you:

IPX version 4 addresses more than just some small annoyances. We're targeting your most pressing scan-to-BIM challenges.

Challenge 1: You can’t predict costs

Is any problem in scan-to-BIM bigger than scoping cost?

When you outsource your scanning or modeling to a third party, pricing varies wildly due to vendor differences and unpredictable scope changes. It's impossible to create an accurate budget whether you're doing one project or a whole portfolio.

Taking it in-house seems like it would help, but it doesn't. You’re just changing the reasons for unpredictability.

IPX V4 Fix: Transparent service ordering

Start a new order and the platform will guide you through a step-by-step ordering process with transparent, live-updating pricing. Specify one building or many buildings and see how your selections affect the cost instantly.

Costs are standardized, tiered by site square footage and project type, with reduced rates for volume. You can also select from six add-ons to specify your needs in greater detail. Then, generate a PDF report to quickly share project details and costs with your team before committing.

Now you can: Budget accurately

Challenge 2: You don’t know what quality you’re getting

There’s only so much you can do to be sure that your deliverables are up to spec. You spot check, hope for the best, and wait to see whether the deliverable causes any problems downstream.

IPX V4 Fix: Verification levels and eval tools

The platform now includes verification levels that show you the quality level of any model at a glance.

The IPX Verified badge means the file has been reviewed by a human using our 37-point QAQC process. BIMIT Engine indicates an AI-generated asset with no human reviewer. User Uploads are assets uploaded by the user, or by IPX on their behalf. These are not verified.

Within the platform, you’ll find a series of views built on our new point cloud viewer that make it easy to evaluate model quality quickly.

Point cloud viewer — Review your raw data with true-color rendering without downloading.

Segmented point cloud visualization — Our BIMIT Engine lays the model on top of the raw data so you can check its work at a glance. See how our process labeled walls, doors, windows, and other elements. Verify classifications against the actual point cloud.

Side-by-Side Model Viewer — Compare two files of the same location in the same window with synced navigation. Pull up the point cloud on one side and the model on the other to evaluate model quality or compare versions over time.

Now you can: Answer the question, “Is this model accurate enough?”

Challenge 3: You paid, but have no idea about project progress

You can track the delivery of a pizza down to the second, but the company you paid to model your building can’t give you accurate information about your project’s progress, or what they need from you. So you email someone and hope for a status update.

IPX V4 Fix: Action engine and order dashboard

Track every order, whether a single project or a whole portfolio, using a dashboard that shows progress and action status at a glance.

Customer actions — A self-updating to-do list to help you complete each order. Sign the service authorization, provide a site contact, upload your insurance certificate, and confirm the scan date. Each has an owner and a deadline.

IPX actions — What we’re doing for you, visible in real time. See when we assign the scan technician, process insurance, and confirm equipment.

Order health — A quick-read status indicator: on track, at risk, or off track. When it stalls, the action engine nudges the right person to resolve the issue. (Coming soon.)

Now you can: Know what's happening now and what comes next

Challenge 4: You need your order faster

Modeling speed is often a bottleneck along a project’s critical path. Modeling services take days or weeks to deliver a model or floorplan, killing your schedules and budgets.

IPX V4 Fix: Fast-track delivery

For times when you need your model even faster, select the fast-track delivery add-on when ordering your project. IPX will deliver your project 30% faster.

Now you can: Get models even faster to meet tight project schedules.

Challenge 5: Your files are frustrating to manage

As scan-to-BIM matures, your tech stack becomes increasingly fragmented. Your files are scattered across email, Dropbox, and local drives. It’s 2026 and you’re still sending hard drives by mail. Management overhead slows your workflow.

IPX V4 Fix: Integrated project tools

New updates help you manage everything you and your stakeholders need within one platform.

Upload — If you have point clouds, BIMs, images, CAD files, or reports: Upload them directly through the platform rather than sending them to IPX.

Share — New collaboration tools make it fast to grant project access to teammates, contractors, or clients with a simple link. Give access to external stakeholders with a public link that restricts access based on their roles.

Access on mobile devices — We fully rebuilt the platform interface for mobile devices, so you can find answers and work on projects at your desk and in the field.

Track — Find and sequence your files by location, floor, and even across multiple scans, opening up new workflows like progress tracking.

Now you can: Manage your whole project or portfolio, from any location.

Challenge 6: You can’t get simple numbers quickly

In older versions of IPX, extracting measurements meant downloading files, opening CAD software and doing manual work. If you wanted to know what equipment was in your building, you’d count it yourself manually.

IPX V4 Fix: Tools for quick insight

Measure — Take measurements directly on your floor plans and 3D models in the browser. Grab numbers for distance, area, and dimension without opening another tool.

Quantify — Pull numbers on equipment inventory and detailed quantity takeoffs. Know exactly what's in your building without leaving the platform.

Now you can: Get insights on your assets and equipment without leaving the platform.

A quick query

Challenge 7: You’re still moving completed BIMs by hand

You get an alert that your model’s ready, then download the file from the portal or shared folder. Now, admin time: rename it, version it, find the right folder, upload. Cross your fingers and hope the designer finds the latest version.

Integrations promise a solution, but they might be anything from “we can export a CSV” to “we have full API sync.” Hard to tell up front.

IPX V4 Fix: Point-to-point integrations

IPX now connects directly wiuth Procore and ACC.

Browse — Find and view your projects and folders from within IPX, in both Procore and ACC.

Push — Pick a destination folder for your models, floor plans, and reports, we handle the rest for you.

Sync — IPX handles naming, versioning, and duplicate detection automatically.

Now you can: Manage handoff with your construction team from inside IPX.

What's Next

The V4 milestone is big, but it’s just one step on the path to making IPX the most reliable scan-to-BIM service on the market. It’s part of our transformation into a platform that extracts intelligence from your building data.

Soon, you’ll be able to ask your building data a question and get back an accurate answer, fast. Think of it as ChatGPT for your asset portfolio.
